The most benefit for the utility is realized when GRIDmaster is used in system operations. In these scenarios, the product can help reduce system outages and hence improve customer service. For operations, the GRIDview will rely on real-time measurements received from the SCADA system and close to real-time measurements from the MDMS to constantly update the system model. Based on the system status as represented by the system model full real-time visibility is obtained. Based on this real-time model operational decisions are performed. Some of the possible real-time applications are:

• Optimized Volt/VAR management
• Optimized Distributed Energy Resource (DER) and load management
• Optimized fault isolation and service restoration.
• Real-time loss minimization

During operation, measurements and other system parameters are received from external systems such as SCADA and the OMS systems. The data model is then optimized to meet one or many of the system goals (objectives). Once optimized, the resulting changes required are sent to the real-time system through the SCADA or the OMS system.
